These pictures are from the second roll of film exposed in the Minolta waterproof camera. They generally show the various rapids we traversed.
This rapid is typical of milder rapids we encountered, but perhaps longer. Smudges are from water on the protective glass in front of the lens.
Looking upstream after a rapid, with our companion boat just reaching its foot.
Boulders which have fallen into the river cause the large standing waves which are best avoided!
Woe be to the rafter who gets hung up on this rock in the middle!
Lots of white water ahead for this raft!
Our companion has nearly completed this rapid.
A private party has just run this easy rapid.
The black rock is Vishnu Schist “basement rock” said to be 1.7 billion years old. It is the lowest strata exposed several places in the Grand Canyon. We were told that it is exposed only two other places in the world. Rock originally below the basement rock has been melted to form magma.
