About 90 members attended the annual FMCA 4 Wheelers chapter rally at Breckenridge CO held at Tiger Run RV Resort.
It is a high end park which has little business after Labor day. Its elevation as around 9700 ft., so nights are cold by our standards. Its pavilion is great for gatherings, and we used it every day for happy hours, dinners or meetings. On the first day members registered for the rally and signed up for for the 5 runs they would take in the next week. Thursday is the traditional day off. Heavy rains were forecast for Tuesday, so the club host called off runs that day.
Here is the serving line for the first meal provided by the club – subway sandwiches and all the trimmings.
And here is another table with the trimmings.
Interior of the pavilion. Its size was more than adequate for the size of our group.
Our Monday run, rated at 2.5 of 5, was to take Weston Pass west from the Fairplay side toward Leadville through countryside like this. The road was well maintained.
Our small group had a rest stop at this old building along the Weston Pass road. Our Grand Cherokee and a heavily modified Toyota pickup truck were the only non-Wranglers in the group attending the rally.
Empire Reservoir, nearly at timberline elevation, provides part of the water supply for Leadville.
The roads to get there were fun to drive.
Ruins of an old building at the reservoir, and a new summer cottage up the hill. It has no plumbing, water or electricity. The biffy is in front with the white roof, propped up with angled supports.
We dropped off the mountain to the Leadville area. It is peppered with tailings from the old mines.
Here one of our group is going through the last obstacle , a 2 ft. deep water hole.
