While parked at lake Sakakawea we took a day trip to Bismarck, the ND capitol, on Aug. 23, for antiquing and going to the museum on the state capitol grounds. It was quite impressive. Two more galleries are to open this fall, so it should be even better then.
Pictures were taken on my10 mp cell phone camera.
This mastodon fossil was found in North Dakota. The state ha lots of fossils from the dinosaur ages.
Below is the story on the now extinct bison latifrons.
This bison fossil is being attacked by three fossil saber tooth tigers.
In the Adaptation Gallery are fossils of dinosaurs.
Yes, this is a T Rex,
And this is a triceratops – a plant-eating animal with good defensive armor about its head. It has two large horns and a smaller one on the top of its upper jaw.
In the Early Peoples gallery, this tipi was shown using tree bark instead of animal skins to cover the framework.
We often see WPA era pottery in antique stores.
We took 3 days to drive the 770 miles from Lake Sakakawea to Denver. The first day on the road took us to Spearfish SD, and the second to a rural RV camp near Glendo WY, below. We enjoyed the large parking sites, full hookups, wifi and views of surrounding hills. Almost every hour a unit train filled with coal went by to fill pent-up demand of power plants for more coal. I hope that our railroads will be able to fill the demands for transportation of coal plus the grain from this fall’s harvest.
